IslamOnline staff protests curbs on ‘editorial independence’

Islamabad, Mar. 17 (ANI): The staff of Cairo-based IslamOnline website have gone on strike following a move by the site’s management to restrict “editorial independence.” The site was plunged into chaos after its bosses in Qatar decided to take control of its content from editorial offices in Egypt. Caracas, March 16 (IANS/EFE) Hooded and armed men Monday kidnapped Carlos Roca, news chief of the Televisa de Zulia television channel in the northeastern Venezuelan state of Zulia, said authorities in Maracaibo, the state capital.

Israel arrests top Hamas militant

Jerusalem, March 15 (DPA) Israeli security forces arrested a Hamas military leader suspected of heading cells responsible for the murders of 70 Israeli civilians during the Palestinian uprising which broke out in 2000, the Israeli military spokesman said Sunday.

Calm returns to Egyptian town after riots (Lead)

Cairo, March 13 (DPA) The northern Egyptian town of Marsa Matruh was quiet Saturday, following violent clashes between Muslims and Christians that left 30 people injured the night before, police said.
