Three Jamia students expelled for sexual harassment (Lead)

New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) Close on the heels of one of its PhD students being arrested for harassment of a woman professor with "intimidating", romantic text messages, the Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) university Tuesday said it has expelled three of its students in different cases of sexual harassment on campus.

"After receiving complaints and carrying out investigations, the proctorial department of the university recently found three students guilty of being involved in different cases of sexual harassment on campus," a statement by the university said. (Continue reading)

Court stays transfer of official probing Koda scam

Ranchi, March 30 (IANS) Jharkhand High Court Tuesday stayed the transfer of Income Tax (IT) official Ujjwal Chaudhary, the main investigator of the Madhu Koda scam, till the probe in the case is completely.

"A division bench of Chief Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra and Justice R.R. Prasad stayed the transfer of IT director (Investigation) Ujjwal Chaudhary till investigation of the Madhu Koda scam. Now Chaudhary can investigate all the angles and people involved in Koda scam," Rajeev Kumar, lawyer of Durga Oraon who had challenged the transfer, told IANS. (Continue reading)

Coal India pledges to improve performance

Kolkata, March 30 (IANS) The country's largest coal producer, Coal India Limited (CIL), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the coal ministry to increase the production and offtake of coal in the 2010-11 fiscal.

"As per the MoU (memorandum of understanding) for the fiscal 2010-11, CIL's targeted production and coal off-take have been pegged at 461.5 and 462.5 million tonnes respectively for attaining an 'Excellent' rating," CIL said Tuesday in a statement. (Continue reading)

No arrests in attack on mine owner fighting Reddy brothers

Bangalore, March 30 (IANS) Police were in the dark Tuesday about the identity of the people who assaulted a mine owner battling the powerful Reddy brothers of Karnataka over the latter's alleged illegal mining activities in Bellary district, a senior police official said.

Poor denied treatment at private hospital despite court order

New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) Bhram Pal Singh, a horse-cart puller in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur town, was in for a shock when a private hospital here denied him treatment for lack of money, despite the Delhi High Court's direction to give free treatment to the economically weaker sections of the society.
