Bangalore, March 30 (IANS) Sex-scandal hit self-styled godman Swami Nityananda has quit as head of his ashram, Dhyanapeetam, a week after the Karnataka High Court rejected his plea for anticipatory bail and quashing of criminal cases against him.

Nityananda, who has not been seen in public since the telecast of a video footage showing him in a sexual act with two women three weeks ago, said on the ashram's website Monday that he was resigning from all the trusts run by the ashram. (Continue reading)

Death sentence to five in Haryana honour killing (Lead)

Karnal (Haryana), March 30 (IANS) Five people were awarded the death penalty by a court in this Haryana town Tuesday for the honour killing of a young couple who had married in 2007 against the wishes of their community.

Six people were convicted for the murder by the additional district and sessions judge here last week, and a seventh, a driver, was held guilty of abduction. While five were awarded the capital punishment, the sixth was sentenced to life term. The driver has been given seven years in jail. (Continue reading)
