Storms claim over 50 lives in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, June 26 (IANS) At least 51 people have been killed in storms which hit Brazil's northeastern region in the past few days, authorities said Friday.

A total of 34 people died in the state of Alagoas while 17 others were killed in neighbouring state of Pernambuco. At least 56 people are still missing, Xinhua reported. (Continue reading)

Brazilian president skips G20 summit due to flood

Brasilia, June 26 (IANS) Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva has cancelled his visit to Canada for the G20 summit due to heavy floods in northeastern Brazil, a government spokesman said Friday.

Lula visited the flood affected areas Thursday and found the disaster was more serious than estimated, so he cancelled his Canada trip to focus on the disaster management, the spokesman said. (Continue reading)

South Africa warns of flu during world cup

Six drug traffickers killed in Mexico

Mexico City, June 26 (IANS) Six drug traffickers were killed and two arrested by the Mexican marine soldiers in a raid in Mexico, media report said.

28 hurt in British food factory explosion

London, June 25 (IANS) At least 28 people were injured in an explosion at a food factory in Staffordshire, an ambulance service said.
