NASA releases Sun Images by Solar Dynamics Observatory

U.S. Space Agency NASA released today the new images of the Sun by the probe SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) . According to the agency, the photos show the great arches and huge explosions of gas.

The images show giant explosions and large arcs of gas. They should help scientists understand solar activity and the impact of such activity on Earth. The observatory must operate for at least another five years.

Solar Dynamics Observatory is different from many other solar observatories which are orbiting Earth. The probe takes images almost every 1.25 seconds.

What a beautiful picture of the Sun. My question, a few years back, we used to hear about Solar flares and the possible impact on Earth. What happened to these reports?
