Should Apple consider Verizon iPhone 4G after NDP report?

According to a leading market research group, NDP, Android operating system exceeded sales of the iPhone OS in the first quarter of 2010. The growth of Android operating system, created by Google, surprised many of Wall Street analyst and experts. The popularity of the Android was largely due to the Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris with Verizon wireless.

Droid vs Apple iPhoneAccording to NDP, phones with Android OS accounted for 28 percent of the units sold to US consumers. Blackberry, which uses its own operating system, took the first spot with 36% and Apple which was No 2 Previously dropped to third place with 21 percent of units sold in the US.

Nokia sold 21.5 million smartphones worldwide in the first quarter of 2010 whereas the RIM comes in second with 10.6 million units sold, followed by Apple and Motorola with 8.8 million 2.3 million units sold, respectively.

According to other reports, Apple has given a free space for Google’s Android to grow and innovate by limiting iPhone to only one service provider. Smart phones sales numbers would have been different if Apple had released Verizon iPhone earlier as many customers on other carriers are buying Android based phones because they have no better option.
