Update: Skype wants its service iPhone 4 FaceTime compatible

We reported today about the Skype’s willingness to work with Apple’s new FaceTime feature of iPhone. There is a new update in the report.

CNET reporter was contacted by Skype Spokesman to clarify the details in the report. According to CNET, he said that “we are not considering FaceTime as a technological platform for video calling in our own products.” He further said that “Based on Apple’s statement about FaceTime being an open platform, we are looking forward to see how this process unfolds.” He also talked about the possibility of video communication between iPhone 4 users and Skype users by saying that “We look forward to working with Apple to bring the best possible mobile video calling experience not only to the millions of Skype users on the iPhone around the world, but also to the countless more making video calls on desktops, TVs and other connected devices.”

CNET reported today with the reference of Gadget website Pocket-Lint that Skype would be happy to make it VOIP and video chatting service compatible with Apple’s new FaceTime. Skype allows people to have video chatting on regular computer. Now with new iPhone 4 feature called FaceTime, people could also make video calls and have video chat with other iPhone owners.

Skype on iPhoneIf Apple allows Skype to enable video chatting facility then FaceTime will not be limited to iPhone users. In simple words, iPhone users could engage in video chatting with any Skype user all around the world.

    The ONLY reason I’d buy an iPhone 4 would be to be able to make video calls to desktop users. I don’t care if it’s Skype-Skype, Skype-Facetime, or Skype-DesktopFacetime, but someone has to offer this!
