Some iPhone 4 buyers may return the phone to get Droid X

Apple finally admitted that there is an antenna problem with iPhone 4. “We are human and we make mistakes sometimes,” Jobs said during the press conference at Apple headquarters which company called to address the iPhone 4 antenna issue. He further said that “We don’t know everything. But we figure it out pretty fast, and we take care of our customers.”

Apple offered free iPhone 4 case to the buyers if they want it. Apart from the announcement of free case, Apple wanted to give another message to its customers and media.  Apple played a YouTube song before the news conference. The song was about iPhone 4 antenna issue and the theme of song was that “if you don’t want iPhone 4, don’t buy it” and “if you buy it and don’t like it, just return it”.

Experts believe that iPhone brand is so strong that customers will even buy the flawed device from the manufacturer. It is not known that what percentage of iPhone 4 buyers are happy with their phones regardless of the reported and now admitted problem but $29 worth of free iPhone 4 bumper will surely make some percentage of Apple customers happy. However few buyers will most probably return the phone because free case is not the permanent solution.

It is possible some of the iPhone 4 buyers may show up at Verizon stores for Motorola Droid X after returning their iPhones. Verizon launched Droid X this week. Motorola Droid X, which has bigger display size, offers many features available in iPhone including 720P video recording, high resolution camera, 1GHz microprocessor, good size of Random Access Memory (RAM) and feature-rich operating system.

I was lucky enough to get a Droid X and this phone is amazing. Great speed, the resolution of the screen in beautiful, I have no complaints about this phone at all….and I can hold it however I want..

and it is also possible that Droid X users will return their Droid to buy an iPhone 4????   what was your point there?

and this is especially true after numerous reviews are basically horrific for the Droid X,   that camera is no where near as nice as the iPhone 4,  the HD video,  no where near as nice,   the accelerometer,  no where near as nice as the iPhone 4,   the software on the Droid X is horrifically slow…

and guess what,  Griping the Droid x tightly also reduces bars and reception….

Since when is 5mp better than 8mp. 720p HD vid. I’ve used the hdmi out thats on the X and it looks great. The X is nowhere near slow. Also, my calls dont drop from holding the X tightly. Not even a noticeable difference.

    • SteveASS says:

      don’t you get it?
for iphone, you don’t even need to grip it. just touch it and you’re signal disappear..
it’s better to have phone that works like a phone than having a better camera.

I bought the Droid X to get rid of my iPhone 4 but after using the Droid X I’m starting to not like it more and more every time I use it. So I think I am just going to stick with my iPhone. I wish I never sold my iPhone 3GS since iPhone 4 signal is much worse than it. I still love the iOS though and that’s the reason I’m staying I use the media player 75% of the time and the Droid X’s media player just doesn’t do it for me.

Motorola people must be really enjoying this moment. Droid X no doubt seems to be the ‘game changer’. I hear eFuse is creating a problem or two (solvable issues) w.r.t upgrading from Android 2.1 to 2.2. The aura surrounding Steve Jobs seems to have collapsed just like the American Bubble economy :-)

Did you even watch the press conference? Plenty of data was given with regards to customer satisfaction and return rates. I don’t own an iPhone nor could I be considered a “fanboy” in the least. Personally I don’t have much use for Apple products other than the iTouch I have been using since I bought it 3 years ago. But I’m tired of seeing useless articles like this one railing against Jobs and Apple for something so silly and baseless. I will agree that the iPhone song was ridiculous though :)

Oh and good luck picking up a Droid X…all but sold out – another fact you failed to mention. But hey…you got to plug Verizon, so good for you.

It’s amazing how badly iPhone 4 sucks. It’s also amazing how Apple Fanboys will defend it until the end of time. I will freely note first off that I am not a fanboy by any stretch, however I do have the 3GS, which I love. I did buy the iPhone 4, and it was so terrible that I returned it and went back to my current 3GS. It was just that bad. It’s hilarious to me what Apple fanboys are saying in forums and blogs all across the web, defending this thing like it’s some sacred gem, pretending all its issues don’t even exist. Ridiculous. 6. ITmedia says:

Is that so? What can the media say about Consumer Report’s evaluation and rating on the Droid X compared to the iPhone 4?

  7. JaredDAC says:

I am one of those people that returned their iPhone4 for the Droid X and I must say that I have nothing but praises for the Droid brand. The processing speed is the same if not better and the functionality of the phone is a lot simpler than the iPhone. Compare to my brother’s iPhone 4 the Droid X is a lot smoother in multitasking, resolution, and usage of internet. No matter how I held the phone on the Droid I never had any “loss of signal”. I travel a lot into the Rocky Mountains and find that the coverage is just outstanding. I have had friends now make the switch as well since Friday after seeing more of the Droid X. Sadly with the iPhone 4 Jobs did drop the ball

  8. AGB says:

The 4 way surpasses the 3 series. I have two here, my wife’s and mine. In a 2-3 bar area – yes, the software was upgraded to show the bars correctly, we have not dropped a single call. Not one, nada! The antenna problem could not be duplicated by Consumer Reports under real world conditions…so they took it to their lab to try to make the problem larger than it was.

The return rate is .55%, 1/3rd that for the return rate for the 3. And our Blackberry drops calls like mad…and we hear, so does Droid. The rest will, from what I gather, take years to catch up to Apple’s flawed act. They should be so flawed.

@ Ryan: Super youtube video. It’s as if Steve Jobs asked for it. Loved it. Thanks.

The “American” quality, be it for products or services is taking a beating and the last of the good boys who could hold the fort after the collapse of the car manufacturers – Steve Jobs – made this monumental error in showing off the antennae in his presentation {by the way, the reception couldn’t get thru’ the presentation as well – I wonder if it was all AT&T now ;-) } and to see that a phone can’t function as a phone is downright embarrasing. The Applefanboys will buy pillow cover cases if Steve Jobs sold ‘em as phone covers – its just that – but the crux of the matter is iPhone4 has failed miserably. Don’t be patriotic to the point of being like Saddam’s / Kim Il Jong’s soldiers for god’s sake.

  11. tashi says:

The droid x is a sub-par over sized faux iPhone. The resolution is much lower than the iphone, the camera is grainy and the video is jumpy. The only thing nice about it is the big screen but its made useless by the low resolution.

  12. Bob says:

If you reall Steve Jobs couldn’t get his call on the iPhone4 during the unveiling of the device itself and blamed it on AT&T (usual suspect). Face it applefanboys, this is/was a blunder from Apple and since he isn’t known to eat his own words (reminiscent of communist leaders ;-) ) he is trying to drag in all other manufacturers into the antennae flaw-game. Its as if this is a tacit admission of flaw by Steve Jobs. He needs to rectify this with iPhone’5′. But Droid X needs to prove itself … am sure it will.
