Google settles privacy lawsuit of Buzz for $8.5 million
According to Court documents, Google has reportedly reached a deal with a user for violation of Privacy over its newly released Google Buzz. The Google may end up paying $8.5 million to cover legal fees, and donations to organization defending privacy on internet.
If approved by the judge, the agreement will put an end to proceedings as a class action brought by a resident of Florida against Google to make available personal information through Buzz, social networking tool.
Subsequent to the agreement, the company made an announcement that Google will simplify its privacy for its users to make it “more transparent and understandable”, according to the advisor of the company, Mike Yang, on Google website.
The new Buzz was released in February with the use of users contacts listed in Gmail account to form social network, which were earlier visible to everyone but Google quick to change the default setting and made all contacts private.
