Sudan holds first multi-party elections in 24 years

The 16 million Sudanese voters began voting today for the first multi-party general elections in 24 years. The result of the elections will decide whether President Omar al-Bashir will continue another term despite the food insufficiency reported in several areas of country.

President Omar al-Bashir is also pursued by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Darfur but he is still the leading candidate after the main opposition forces abandoned the process.

Elections will be held between Sunday and Tuesday. The polls opened at 08:00 am (local time) and will do the same hours on Monday and Tuesday, and will close at 18:00.

Sudan is the largest country in Africa and one of the poorest in the world.
