Airlines conduct test flights in Europe over volcanic ash cloud

By Jamie Cole
The Dutch carrier KLM and German Lufthansa operated test flights in the air space of the Europe. Both companies said today that company has found nothing unusual during test flights. Lufthansa has operated ten flights without passengers Saturday from Munich to Frankfurt.

Spokeswoman for KLM told to CNN that their test flights show European airspace, with the exception of Iceland, is safe.

Meanwhile Lufthansa and Air Berlin also criticized the German governments on their decision to close the airspace while insisting that test flights have shown “no harm”.

Thousands of travelers stranded on Sunday at main airport across Europe because of the ash released by the volcanic ash spewing in Iceland. The number of flights cancelled was 20 thousands and the International Civil Aviation Organization confirmed that airspace shutdown is the worst paralysis in the history of air travel since the attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States.
